WebCT Information
WebCT – During the summer
of 2001 a WebCT server was placed on the Digital Dakota Network and made
available to trained South Dakota educators.
What is WebCT?
WebCT is a tool that facilitates the creation of World
Wide Web-based educational environments. It provides an interface allowing
the design of the presentation of the course (color schemes, layout, etc.)
and it provides a set of educational tools to facilitate learning,
communication and collaboration.
WebCT allows teachers to enhance existing distance education courses by putting course
content online including course syllabi, calendar, and communication tools.
WebCT is used to:
- Allow very easy posting of class documents to the web
- Homework posting
- Encourage parental involvement in the child's education
- Ensure educational continuity during snow days
- Eliminate manual grading of assignments
- Enabling "Web Enhanced" classroom-based teaching and learning
- Delivering distance learning
- Blending the benefits of face-to-face and on-line learning through
the use of hybrid courses
- On-line real-time chats

Note for Educators using the Video Conferencing (DDN) system for educational activities:
DDN Website and Clearinghouse– A
website has been developed where educators can post courses and other
learning opportunities that will be offered over the DDN. This website
provides event and contact information to other educators that may be
interested in participating in the activity. The DDN Clearinghouse is part
of the DDN webpage where other resources related to the DDN are posted.

DDN Curriculum Website - TTL/DTL 2002 marked the exciting
début of South Dakota’s own Curriculum Lesson Plan Site. Units of study
that are designed during TTL Academies are submitted to this site and then
made available to fellow educators. The DDN Curriculum site is also used
by other state programs and unit/lesson submission and is open to all
South Dakota educators.
